Member, Global Intermodal Council Institute® (MGICI®)

The Member, Global Intermodal Council Institute® (MGICI®) designation is the professional membership grade of the Global Intermodal Council Institute® (GICI®). It recognizes experienced professionals who have demonstrated competence, responsibility, and sustained contribution within the global intermodal logistics and supply chain ecosystem. MGICI® is designed for practitioners, managers, and emerging senior leaders whose careers span shipping, freight forwarding, logistics, ports and terminals, transport, warehousing, supply chain management, infrastructure, finance, and related enabling services.

The designation affirms professional credibility and signals alignment with globally recognized standards of practice, ethics, and leadership within the intermodal industry.

Purpose of the MGICI® Designation

The MGICI® designation exists to formally recognize professionals who have built meaningful experience and capability within the intermodal logistics sector and who demonstrate commitment to professional growth and industry development. Unlike examination-based credentials, MGICI® is conferred through a structured review of education, professional experience, scope of responsibility, and contribution to the industry. It reflects real-world competence and practical leadership rather than academic testing alone.

Who the MGICI® Is For

MGICI® is intended for professionals who are actively engaged in the intermodal logistics and supply chain ecosystem and who hold roles involving operational responsibility, management, or specialist expertise. Candidates typically include mid-level to senior professionals working in logistics operations, commercial management, trade facilitation, infrastructure development, technology, finance, insurance, or advisory roles within the intermodal value chain.

Eligibility and Admission

Admission to MGICI® is based on an assessment of the applicant’s professional background rather than a formal examination. Applicants are expected to demonstrate relevant academic or professional qualifications, a minimum level of industry experience, and a record of professional responsibility within their organization or field.

Applications are reviewed by the Institute to ensure alignment with GICI® standards, professional integrity, and relevance to the intermodal logistics sector. Admission is granted at the discretion of the Institute following review.

Professional Standing and Recognition

Certified members are entitled to use the MGICI® designation in professional correspondence, biographies, and profiles in accordance with Institute guidelines. The designation signals peer recognition, professional credibility, and commitment to ethical and industry best practice.

MGICI® members become part of the global GICI® professional community and may participate in Institute-led initiatives, forums, learning programs, and thought leadership platforms.

Relationship to FGICI®

MGICI® represents a foundational professional membership grade within the Institute. Members who demonstrate sustained leadership, senior responsibility, and significant contribution to the industry over time may be eligible for elevation to Fellow, Global Intermodal Council Institute® (FGICI®).

Progression is based on professional maturity and contribution rather than tenure alone.

Engagement with the Global Intermodal Council

MGICI® membership is individual and independent of corporate membership in the Global Intermodal Council. However, many MGICI® members also serve as nominated representatives of corporate GIC members, strengthening the connection between institutional participation and individual professional capability. MGICI® provides a professional anchor that remains with the individual across organizations, regions, and career transitions.
